Who is Jaymonis?

Jaymonis is a self-taught emcee and producer, though he was played piano and was classically trained in music since the age of three. Born and raised in Chicago, Jaymonis moved to Hawai’i to study English at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Because Hawai’i is such a transitory place, Jaymonis met and interacted with people from all walks of life, and it was through those experiences that he realised his passion for making music was also a universal language with the power to connect people of all backgrounds, and a vehicle for creating an understanding of the human experience. It was then that he decided to drop out of school so he could go all-in, wake up every day, and challenge himself to make a whole song for a full year. When Jaymonis isn’t writing, he produces his own music using Cubase, Maschine, and even Audacity.
Not Only does Jaymonis’ music aspire to connect people through sharing raw emotions, challenging socioeconomic systems, and act as a conduit for understanding; Jaymonis aspires to have a positive influence on black culture. Dishearted by rape culture and violence perpetrated in the industry and in media, Jaymonis seeks to create a culture shift by creating a counter-narrative in his music. Rather than using shock or awe to share his story and connect with people, he focuses on lyricism on sharing a feeling through what he calls ‘honest rap,’ or being true and honest to yourself. Through his studies in spirituality, Jaymonis has created a sound that reflects the shift he saw in himself and released it into the world as a vibration to make a shift in culture.
